Ibadan horror: IG vows to get perpetrators

IBADAN — THE Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Abubakar, has vowed to do a thorough investigation into the crimes committed by suspected kidnappers at Soka in Ibadan, where hundreds of victims had been tortured or killed. The kidnappers’ den was discovered last Saturday by a group of commercial motorcyclists, popularly called Okada riders, while they were searching for two of their colleagues who were missing.Also, eight suspects have been arrested so far over the incident. Since the incident happened, the den has become a tourist centre for thousands of people who either wanted to witness the horror or look for their missing relatives. The police boss made the promise while on an assessment visit to the den, yesterday. The IG, who was represented by the Assistant Inspector General of Police, Zone 11, Mr. Femi Omolaja, said anybody involved in the heinous crime would be apprehended in due course. Omojola, who is in charge of Oyo, Osun and Ondo, said he came on the directive of the Inspector-General of Police. He said: “Thorough investigation is ongoing and we don’t want to disclose any identity of those arrested in order not to hinder our investigation.” Omolaja advised the people in the state to be sensitive of their environment and report any suspicious movement to the security agents. Apparently reacting to jungle justice being carried out by youths, he warned that nobody must not that take the laws into his or her hands. He said any suspect, mad or not, should be reported to law enforcement agents.
