Crossing Salween is a very short film, about 30 minutes, which is a heart touching story of a young Karen girl whose parents and relatives have been killed by the Burmese military. She is called Ko Reh and 9 years old, and she has been helped by a hunter, Dante, who has promised her father to take her to a safety place.
Before trying to cross the Salween River, the hunter urges her to go to the nearby village so that she could eat up and have energy to cross the river next morning. While still in deep sleeping and dreaming about a happy time with her father, the military breaks in and killing people and arresting some, one of them was Ko Reh.
On the way, the rebellion ambushed and she runs out the the truck into the forest escaping. The soldiers also try to catch her and the hunter who suddenly appear where she could see. They both are running towards the Salween River. Upon seeing the hunter jump into the river and swim across to the other side, she did the same. The hunter was shot and disappear. However, Ko Reh didn't stop swimming even though bullets are flying over her head. Finally, she made to the other side of the river and the film ends. But that's the start of her new life.
