Two women and three young children died in the fire at Wake Road in Sheffield
Five people, including three young children, have died in a house fire in Sheffield.
South Yorkshire Fire Service said two women also died in the fire at a house on Wake Road, in Sharrow.A 999 call was received at 00:15 BST and fire, ambulance and police services all attended.
A spokesman for the fire service said an investigation is under way, involving its officers and police, to establish the cause of the blaze.
Terraced houseFour fire engines from Central, Rivelin, Lowedges and Mansfield Road stations, along with a crew using an aerial ladder platform, went to the scene.
Wake Road, a residential street which is lined with cars on each side, has been cordoned off.
A South Yorkshire Police spokesman said the damaged building was believed to be a terraced house.
"At this stage we are not able to confirm where in the house the fire broke out or if anyone else was injured," he said.
"Our investigators are arriving here at 09:00, so we we will know more later on this morning."
Specialist investigators are expected at the scene later this morning
Vicky Edwards, who lives on Wake Road, said: "It's a shock, if course it's a shock. "I got up and saw the police tape and thought 'what is that about?' but it was only when I came outside and saw the police officers I realised it was something serious. "It's a really nice neighbourhood, the sort of place where kids play outside."
A neighbour, who asked to remain anonymous, said: "We were asleep we did not hear anything or see anything.
"We know the family. It's such a tragedy, it's the saddest thing you can hear."
